Dreamland Bar B Que Ribs - Tuscaloosa
If you ever find yourself in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, you must make a stop by the original Dreamland Barbeque -- "Ain't nothing like 'em nowhere!". You know the ribs have to be good since Dreamland has been in business since 1958. Started by John "Big Daddy" Bishop as an answer to his prayer for another way to make money to support his family. Originally, the menu was simple -- ribs and white bread. Today Dreamland offers diners more options on the menu, but it is still pretty basic.
Dreamland has several franchise locations, but if you have the chance to stop by the original location in Tuscaloosa, I recommend you do so. "Big Daddy" opened Dreamland next door to his home. So the original location is about two miles from the intersection of US 82 and I-20. Once you start weaving your way through Tuscaloosa's "Jerusalem Heights" neighborhood, the sweet, smoky smell of bar-b-que will start filling the air, and you know you are close to the original Dreamland Bar-B-Que.
Today you can enjoy a choice of potato salad, slaw or baked beans with your rib plate or slab of ribs, served with white bread! The original location also has an option of a rib sandwich or smoked sausage, and you cannot leave off the homemade banana pudding for desert. The franchise locations have a larger menu selection, but this foodie recommends the original Dreamland -- to make all of your bar-b-que dreams come true!
